The Clayton Fire Department
responded to reports of a fire in downtown Clayton on Friday evening.  Main Street lit the sky with flames coming from the building that housed Helping Hands Mission

Helping Hands Mission on Main Street was engulfed in flames by 10:30 pm threatening its neighbors, Carrol's TV and Elmore Furniture.  Although Helping Hands Mission was hit the hardest by the fire, Carrol's TV & Appliance and Elmore Furniture did sustain some fire, smoke and water damage.

The Clayton Fire Department reported there were no personal injuries due to the flames.  The cause of the fire was not provided, however it is believed that the fire started outside the Helping Hands Mission building.  The State Bureau of Investigation was on the scene by 1:30pm today to begin searching for the cause of the fire that gutted the Helping Hands Mission.

Mr. Elmore of Elmore Furniture said that his business did not sustain as much fire damage as it did smoke and water.  Mr. Elmore also praised the Clayton Fire Department for their outstanding performance of handling the large fire.  Elmore Furniture is in the process of locating temporary office space until his building can be repaired.
