What's Happening With the Cleveland Name Selection

A local 4042.com feature

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

We want to provide an update to residents in our area regarding the Alternate Place Name for Cleveland community. The Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jackie Radley and I met with postal officials on September 13, 2002 at their offices in Morrisville.  At that time, we took the ballots of an informal survey conducted on 4042.com and in the Cleveland Post.

The postal officer advised us that they could not conduct the review of street names, but that they would help us order the listings through their Customer Service Department so that we could do it. At that time, the officer dialed Customer Service and we were advised it would take 7-10 working days to receive the list.

On November 8th, after many frustrated phone calls and faxes including a call to the district executive in Greensboro, we received the list. At this time, we are reviewing the ballot addresses against the postal routes that will be affected by the new name.  In fairness to everyone, we will count only responses received from streets in the affected routes.

During the month of December we hope to conclude the count, provide the name to the USPS for approval and report the results to the community in January.

I want to assure every reader that the Alternate Place Name matter is the highest priority of the chamber and even as my term as president concludes, I will see this matter to its conclusion with the new board of directors.  We also appreciate your patience.

       Sincerely,

       Deirdre I. Jersey
