The Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce and the United States Postal Service Marketing Department from the District Office in Greensboro will host an Information Meeting for the community on Thursday, May 8, 2003 at the Cleveland Middle School Cafeteria beginning at 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

"Members of the USPS Marketing and Operations Departments will be on hand to make a brief presentation and answer every question members of the community may have as we move forward in this process," said Jersey.

According to Jersey, Brenda Miller, Manager Marketing, of the USPS contacted the chamber to ask if they could host a public meeting and make a presentation to the community.  The chamber welcomed the opportunity to keep everyone informed.

The post office is particularly interested in knowing that community residents and businesses can ask all of their own questions about the boundaries and future mail delivery before they conduct the Official Boundary Survey.  The USPS Boundary Survey will be conducted after the community selects a name by voting and returning ballots that will be mailed by the chamber before the end of April. Ballots are to be postmarked and returned to the chamber by May 12.

Miller and Jersey said they will stress several points at the meeting.

One, if the community does not respond favorably to the Boundary Survey, the USPS will not conduct it again for ten (10) years. Two, the USPS will make the final determination whether Garner or Clayton will deliver mail based on responses from the community and operational capacity and three, even if you cannot go to the post office to pick up a package if you miss the first delivery, patrons can call the post office for a second delivery of the parcel.  Jersey also asked Miller to prepare an accurate route map so that residents can see who is potentially affected.

"Ten years is a long time to live and work in an unnamed community that is experiencing our rate of growth and that has our volume of pride," said Jersey.  "I pray the community will support the effort to have an Alternate Place Name."
