Nearly twenty local residents gathered at the Hampton Inn on Highway 42 for a very informative financial seminar sponsored by 4042.com on Thursday, February Eighth. The two guest speakers included Anne Glassford from Southeastern Residential Mortgage and Lonnie Hedrick, an Investment Representative with Edward Jones. 

Glassford educated the guests on refinancing, the times to do it, and where and what you should be looking for. She also spoke on the importance of interest rates and how they effect your mortgage rates. One important point emphasized by Anne was the elimination of numerous credit checks by mortgage companies. She advised not to give out personal information to every potential provider, this will show an abnormal amount of inquiries into your account(s). This could cause potential providers to be suspicious of your record. Glassford also advised not to openly trust online loans. Not all companies online have to capability to offer you what you are looking for. At the same time, you need to be careful about the amount of personal information you release on the internet. Your personal information is accessible and could lead to problems. Anne closed with advising customers to go to companies in person and get estimates on mortgages, then you can get valuable mortgage information without having to release your personal information.

Lonnie Hedrick informed the seminar participants on the ways to invest money wisely. He explained the different options available for different financial and future needs. He emphasized the three ways you utilize money-(1)spend, (2)own, and (3)loan. Hedrick then proceeded to explain four ways you can invest money, according to your specific need. He explained the investments used for short periods of time (up to five years of investing) and then some more elaborate long-term plans (five years and above). The participants learned a great deal about how investments and the stock market works, as well as the qualities you should look for in someone who will be dealing with your finances.
