The Cleveland, Garner and 50/210 Fire Departments responded to fires along I-40 today.  According to a Deputy with the Johnston County Sheriffs Department, approximately 6 individual fires were burning along the interstate. 

A cluster of these occurred at the 40/42 intersection and merged into a larger blaze.  There was also a fire at the I-40 and 70 intersection. 

The fires were apparently started along the roadside and were driven by wind into the surrounding woods.  The blazes were controlled through quick action of the firefighters and the cause is under investigation.
