G105 Visits 40/42 to Help Out a Johnston County Youth

[8/2/01]

If you've listened to Bob and Madison on the
G105 Showgram over the years (Raleigh radio station 105.1FM), then you know they always rise to the occasion and make a difference when it comes to helping out their listeners.  That was the case today as Big Flash and others from the Showgram set up shop in the Lowe's parking lot at 40/42.

The reason?  A Johnston County youth named Ricky Barbour.  Nine-year old Ricky deals with multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy and was working towards earning enough money to purchase a golf cart to assist him in playing with his friends and increasing his mobility.  The plan was to sell produce from a garden he had planted with his parents help, using the proceeds to reach his goal of buying a cart.  Those plans took an unfortunate turn for the worse when the family recently returned home to find that someone had stolen the produce and also killed Ricky's pet dog.

During their wildly popular Showgram, Bob and Madison championed the cause, encouraging listeners to drop off donations to help "make things right" for Ricky.  The outpouring of local support was immediate as cars lined up at 40/42 where the G105 crew was stationed, with other pledges being called in over the air.

When all was said and done, thousands of dollars were raised and Ricky will be receiving his dreamed of golf cart as well as a new puppy and other support services from local businesses.
