Look for the Light (Lighthouse that is)
Lighthouse Point opened for business on December 31, 2001. Formerly Michaels' Steak and Seafood, Lighthouse Point has not changed ownership - only atmosphere. Adding sandwiches, grilled shrimp, sirloin steak and steamed oysters are just the
beginning of a more diversified menu. Owners, Mike and Betty, welcome you to their family atmosphere and casual dining experience. In a hurry? Lighthouse Point offers Takeout Specials Tuesday through Saturday. Call ahead 553-3758 or 553-3362 and drive through!A Switch to Only Tires and a New Automotive Repair Business Last month, the Goodyear Gemini Auto Center
at I-40/42 announced plans to discontinue general automotive services and to focus only on tire sales. Cleveland area residents need not despair, as Carolina Tire & Service, a new business specializing in automotive repair, soon will fill this void. Carolina Tire & Service will be located at I-40/42 and plans to open in late Spring 2002. Construction began on the 11,000 square foot structure in early December. The new building is located on Mast Drive
in the I-40 Park behind the Hampton Inn. Stephenson General Contractors of Smithfield is the General Contractor.
Carolina Tire & Service will be a state of the art vehicle service facility offering a complete range of vehicle services for imported and domestic automobiles as well as light trucks and Recreational Vehicles. In addition to providing both minor and major repairs
for all types of vehicles Carolina Tire & Service will also offer premium brand auto and light truck tires including Michelin, BF Goodrich, and Uniroyal.
Carolina Tire & Service will be locally owned and operated. An experienced management team, with over 45 years combined experience in the vehicle care business, has been hired. Carter Mobley, a resident of the Cleveland area, is Managing Partner of Carolina Tire & Service.
"It is our goal
to become the "home town garage" for the regional area, " said Mobley; "we believe that there is a real need for the types of services we will offer in the Cleveland area of Johnston County; we intend to focus on customer service and to provide one stop shopping for all of our customers' vehicle related maintenance and repair needs." LIVE LOBSTERS! Ok, so we get excited about lobster! (It's a favorite around the 4042.com
offices!) We were happy to learn that She Sells Seafood now has a live lobster tank
- in addition to their regular fare of ocean fresh seafood. She Sells Seafood is located at the 40/42 intersection, next to Lynne's Workout. GIve them a call at 661-9799 - they now also have oysters year round and accept EBT or food stamps. (P.S. We learned during our visit that lobsters have the best eysight of any aquatic animal. Watch for that question on Trivial Pursuit!) It' Racing - Same Name, Different Location
It's Racing
has moved to a new, bigger location. You can now find collectable Nascar cars, coats, hats, t-shirts, just about anything pertaining to Nascar at It's Racing in the River Oaks Shopping Center (across from Lowe's on Hwy 42). Not only does It's Racing carry Nascar merchandise, but you'll also find Nextel and Nextel accessories. We Notice As We Cover the Area..... That huge, old house that is located across from the entrance
to Lancaster Downs subdivision has been the topic of discussion
several times here on 4042.com. Many people were afraid the structure would just be torn down. They have recently removed the chimney's and done some additional clearing work around the house. We stopped by to take a picture and ask about the plans. The crew working just knew that it was being moved, but didn't know where. More as we know it here. UPDATE: (posted 1/30/02) The DanceArt Studio
is being located where the "old" house is across from Lancaster Downs subdivision. The "old" house is being moved and an office complex is being built there. Lancaster Downs Office Complex will have the DanceArt Studio and several other office buildings. Just past the intersection of Hwy 42 and Cornwallis is where you'll find Anna Place
which hosts our local Karate and Premier Cheerleading establishments. There's a new building started. (The Web Dog is tracking down any possible news on who will locate there...stay tuned!) Rumors and Misc. Stuff! The 4042.com Web Dog tells us that there is a "lot brewing out there." None of this is confirmed, but here's the talk on the street! - Heavy speculation about a new grocery store(s)
at 40/42 - we hear the possibility of a Lowes Foods.
- State Employees Credit Union
- the 40/42 intersection is a prime candidate for a new branch due to the heavy area growth. We are told that "if we want a branch, it helps to express interest." Look for the possibility of an online petition here as a way of showing that interest.- Exit 319 shopping center,
which includes a Food Lion, will likely have a Chinese restaurant, possibly also an authentic
Mexican restaurant. Dry cleaners also expected.- Ready for another brand of burger? Andy's Burgers should be showing up at 40/42 in the not to distant future.
- We recently added a
new dentist to 40/42, and the word is out that
another Dr.'s office will be showing up also.Just across from Dairy Queen at 40/42, the Ashely Turner building will be going up.Web Sites Recently Added In case you haven't visited yet, check out some of the new local web sites that have popped up.
