It was a good showing Tuesday evening, mostly of Clayton residents, at Cleveland Middle School as a public meeting was held to discuss the proposed school attendance boundaries.  Dr. Causby, Superintendent of Johnston County Schools, presented his recommendations to the approximately 140 who were present for the meeting.

The majority of those voicing their opinion during the open forum expressed their concern over the large number of Clayton students near the Clayton High School who would be assigned to the new West Johnston High School.  Many voiced their feelings that they felt it unfair that their children would have to travel further to attend West Johnston, and did not want them to be separated from their peer groups.

The recommendation presented to the School Board provided for students in grades 9 and 10 who currently attend Clayton High School, Smithfield-Selma High School or South Johnston High School during the 2000-2001 school year, and reside in segments reassigned to West Johnston High School, to be grandfathered and allowed to remain at those schools if their parents so request and their parents agree to provide transportation.

Following a period of comment by concerned residents, an amendment was attached to the recommendations that reassigned the attendance boundaries 137 and 138 back to Clayton High School.  In addition, current year 8th graders in the six affected middle schools would also be grandfathered to allow them to choose to attend the high school they would have been assigned to prior to the opening of West Johnston. The board voted unanimously to accept the recommendations.

It was stressed several times during the meeting that should the new boundaries place a student in a school not to their liking, reassignment forms are available through the Superintendent's office.

EZ-Mail Closes!

We learned yesterday that the EZ-Mail, located at 40/42 in the Food Lion shopping center, was going out of business.  Posted on the front door is this message:

"We regret to inform you, due to the events of Sept. 11, 2001, we no longer find it profitable to continue offering this valuable service.

We thank you for allowing us the opportunity to serve and pray for many of you.  Thank you for sharing and allowing us to watch your families grow.

This is in no way goodbye, however, I'll see you at the next level.

To everything under the sun there is a time and a season....

The Brown Family
"

From what we understand, Mail & More, located at the North Station Shopping Center in Garner (near the Wal Mart) will honor the remaining rental term on any mailboxes that are currently at EZ-Mail.  Those not choosing to go that route would have their mail held by the Garner post office for pickup.

Eight Ball is the Game!

Check out the River Oaks shopping center (across from Lowes at 40/42) as you drive by and you'll see the newest resident getting close to opening!  The 4042.com Web Dog told us his suspicions about what was going in there when he saw the light fixtures that were installed...turns out he was right!  Looks like Shooters Billiards will be open in the not too distance future - prepare to join up to use the tables.  From the sign on the door, it looks like it will be  a private club.

Cleveland's Version of the Philly

Just beyond Jersey Mike's (also in the River Oaks center), you'll see the sign up and footings poured for the newest addition to the 40/42 menu.  Andy's Cheesesteaks has broken ground!

Who's The Next Door Neighbor?

The Web Dog is working on this one.  Seems that CyberPup, located behind Smithfield's BBQ, has downsized their square footage.  This has opened up a new space which we'll keep an eye on and let you know who moves in!  (Heard anything about this?  If so, e-mail us and let us know!)

UPDATE:
Thanks to all of you who e-mailed us with "Web Dog news tips!"  It looks like CyberPups neighbor is going to be a new Coffee Shop!!  We hear they plan to be open by the first of April.  Stay tuned...we'll post more info as we find it!
