What's New, What's Changing, What's On the Way

A local 4042.com feature

[5/29/02)

This past Saturday we took note that the 4042.com Web Dog's raids on the local cat food dishes was bringing on some extra baggage.  Hoping to help the situation, we sent him out on the road with a camera to check on the progress of the construction in the 40/42 area.  As a result, we have our latest update and he's looking a little leaner!

River Oaks Shopping Center (across from Lowes at 40/42) will soon have another occupant.  The sign is out for Star Lee's Tae Kwon Do Academy.  They should be open on June 1, with a Grand Opening planned for June 22.

Now open for business is Carolina Tire and Service.  The brand new facility is ready and they are accepting service appointments at 771-0300.  You'll find them located behind the Hampton Inn at 40/42.

Nearing completion (and advertising now for open positions) is Andy's Burgers and Cheesesteaks.  The building is located just down the road from Jersey Mike's Subs, below River Oaks Shopping Center. (Have you noticed that the Web Dog likes to report on anything having to do with food?)

In case you haven't taken your car to the Grand Prix Car Wash lately, you may not have seen the new expansion of Peddler's Village on Commerce Parkway.  Looks like they are almost doubling in size, with the new rental spaces available sometime in August (at least that's what the sign says!).  Of course, we'll let you know who will be setting up for business in that area as soon as the Web Dog digs up the info!  (If you've got any info on new businesses, e-mail us here with the scoop!)

Also in the new construction phase is the  Ashley Turner Building, right on 42, across from the Dairy Queen and Peddler's Village.  Just a short ways down 42 towards Clayton you'll find the second phase of Anna Place has been completed, with spaces now available for lease.  DanceArt, Inc. on Cleveland Rd. looks like they have completed the major exterior portion of construction.

Signs of change - what used to be The Jameson Inn (located next to the Cracker Barrel 40/42) has switched to become a Super 8 Motel.

Back to our construction theme, we shake our heads every time we head up towards Exit 319 and pass the front of the new West Johnston High School.  The place is HUGE and the way the intersection is shaping up in front of it, we see a real traffic mess in the future.  They have widened the road there, but it doesn't look to be enough to handle the sort of daily traffic that will flow through that area.

Speaking of Exit 319...

It looks like steady progress is being made at the new shopping center going up at Exit 319.  The main building shells are taking shape as this Food Lion anchored facility moves forward. In past updates we have reported that this center will have a cleaners and likely a Chinese restaurant.  The Web Dog continues to sniff around, with ears perked up for any new additions.

Next to the Exit 319 Texaco on Old Roberts Road, a sign has appeared announcing a new car wash.   Old Roberts Road is pretty much out of the mainstream traffic, but if you drive just a short distance down it, you find a number of businesses you've likely seen roadside signs for (SWS Mini Storage, Carolina Collision, Crossroads Flooring, Classic Insulation, and True Blue Performance).  From the looks of it, this area will continue to develop as a light industrial complex, with additional tracts advertised for sale.  In addition, the Web Dog hears rumor of some apartments being built in the vicinity.

Finding new businesses in this area can be a challenge - many aren't in the phone books yet!  Make sure you check out the 4042.com Online Business Directory .  It's the best way to stay up-to-date with local contacts!
