At approximately 7pm this past Sunday (1/20/02), Johnston Co. police responded to the report of a suspicious person and vehicle at the 40/42 Food Lion. Upon arrival, the suspect, Lester Littebrant of New York, was observed using the pay phone at the 40/42 Texaco and approached by the Deputy.
Running a check on the car and suspect, the Deputy learned of outstanding warrants
for the suspect, who jumped into his truck and attempted to elude capture. The chase continued down Commerce Parkway to Cleveland School Rd. where the suspect was unable to stop and hit a Jeep Wrangler with two male occupants. The suspect then continued down Cleveland School Rd, hitting speeds of 70 MPH before slamming on brakes and turning into Lancaster subdivision, barely missing another vehicle.
At this point the suspect stopped his vehicle just short of the
ditch and began yelling at the deputy who had exited his car. Suspect then put his truck in reverse and started moving toward the deputy, who immediately returned to his patrol car and also backed up. Unable to maneuver the truck to get out of the subdivision, the suspect backed up again and this time rammed the deputy's car head on, and then proceeded down Cleveland School Rd. to Southfort subdivision.
The suspect jumped the ditch running into a
residential yard, missing the house and the snowblade on the front of the truck prevented it from going futher. The chase continued on foot after the suspect left his vehicle and entered the woods behind the house. The K-9 unit was called out for tracking, but the suspect eluded capture. The suspect has had 3 felony warrants issued against him based on the incident, and the search continues.
