[9/30/00] Taking a ride around the area with the Web Dog, we find a lot of activity to report back on. Everywhere we turn, a new sign has "popped up".... we bring you the info and the pics!Let's start down around the McGee's Crossroads area. Coming up
next Saturday is the 50-210's Fireman's Day. Look for more info here as we draw closer to the event. Nothing like being able to get to your money at convenient locations, and we've got a new ATM location in the area at Creech's Gas and Grocery on Hwy 210. Checking in on the progress at the I-40 and Hwy 210 intersection (Exit 319), we find the I-40 Super Gas open and doing business
(gas and convenience store.). The Dairy Queen and Papa's Pizza sections are near completion and advertising for employees. One important note for you road warriors...this Dairy Queen appears to have a drive-thru!! Still at Exit 319, we look across the road at the original Texaco station and see an interesting sign in front of it, advertising the fact that the "White Swan" will be there soon. An educated guess is it will be a BBQ restaurant like
the one under the same name in Clayton. Judging from the other development company signs at Exit 319 and the surveying going on, we are about to see a real burst of growth in that area. Hold on! Moving over to the 40/42 intersection, we see that Domino's has gotten their sign on the building, while in the lot behind McDonalds a trailer holds the replacement parts for their sign damaged by the recent tornado.Perhaps the most dramatic new addition is now under construction behind the First Citizens bank and the Hampton Inn. A "coming soon" banner is promising the addition of medical offices and a pharmacy. Across the street at Peddler's Village, one of the
original stores now is a sign of no activity. Country Video has closed up shop. The Clubhouse restaurant, however, has expanded their hours. They are now open on Sunday and have been adding live music on occasion. On the other side of the 40/42 intersection, the River Oaks strip center is shaping up. The Carquest store has a sign in the window and stock on the shelves. Others won't be far behind, including a jewelry store. Making the
switch from their present location behind Smithfield's BBQ, Digital Dish will be setting up at River Oaks also. If you haven't ventured down the roads behind Lowe's, you might not be aware of some of the other additions to the area. Raleigh Contractor's Supply has been in operation for several months, and we now have Bobcat of Johnston County. (Note: Both buildings have additional vacant office space advertised for lease.)
