{mosimage}The Johnston County Board of Commissioners hosted a community meeting Tuesday, November 6, 2007,  for the purpose of discussing land use planning and related issues in Johnston County. The public was invited to attend. The meeting was held at West Johnston High School (Auditorium) 5935 Raleigh Road. Thirty-five people attended and several voiced their concerns over lack of infrastructure in keeping with the growth in the Cleveland area.

One major concern was traffic congestion at the 40/42 interchange. Assurances were given that the Department of Transportation is doing studies in that area and efforts are being made to come up with resolutions. Further concerns were expressed regarding the additional congestion that will occur when Wal-Mart is built in that area. The Commissioners affirmed that additional lanes would be placed to control traffic.

Over-crowding in the schools was another issue brought before the Commissioners and again, acknowledgement was given to the concern and explanations of efforts being made to correct that problem. One gain is the progress toward securing land for a new high school in the Cleveland area. A Purchase price has been approved for the land for a new high school. The site is at the intersection of Monroe and Polenta Roads

Additional concern was voiced regarding our water supply in Johnston County. Again, our commissioners acknowledged that matter and confirmed that studies and long range planning is taking place.

A smiliar meeting is planned for:
