facebook Share on Facebook Johnston County's seasonally unadjusted jobless rate increased to 10.4 percent in June, up from 10.1 percent in May. The unemployment rate rose as the labor force and the number of unemployed increased. The labor force jumped by nearly 1,000 in June, rising to 77,971, while the number of unemployed increased by 381 to reach a total of 8,145. The number of employed county residents actually increased by more than 600 in June, totaling 69,826. N.C. State economics professor Michael Walden cautioned against viewing that increase as a silver lining to the figures released Friday by the state's Employment Security Commission. "The seasonal adjustment always revises the employment numbers down in June due to the increase in part-time summer jobs for high school and college students," Walden said. "So I wouldn't interpret the recent job numbers as a positive trend."
