Share on Facebook N.C. Department of Transportation Secretary Gene Conti has awarded a contract for resurfacing on several sections of U.S. 301, N.C. 42, N.C. 242, U.S. 70 Alternate and N.C. 96 in Johnston County, totaling 10.3 miles.

The $1.6 million contract was awarded to S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson. Work can begin as early as Nov. 26, with final completion scheduled for no later than Aug. 15, 2013.

The following sections of road will be resurfaced:

• U.S. 301 in Four Oaks from I-95 to just before Keen Road;
• U.S. 301 in Kenly from Truck Stop Road to just west of Bottleneck Road;
• N.C. 42 from the bridge at I-40 to Bratton Drive;
• N.C. 242 from U.S. 301 to the I-40 bridge;
• U.S. 70 Alternate from east of Jr Road between Selma and Pine Level, through Pine Level to Country Store Road; and
• N.C. 96 southeast of Benson from West Johnson Road to Woods Crossroads Road.

These roads will be open to traffic throughout the project with flagmen directing motorists through the construction site when lane closures are in place.

{mosimage}This is one of 15 contracts totaling $73.6 million awarded by Conti in October for highway and bridge projects across North Carolina. NCDOT awarded the contracts to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The bids received on the projects awarded came in about 9.1 percent, or $7.4 million, below NCDOT estimates.

Bev Perdue took office in January of 2009, NCDOT has awarded 727 highway contracts totaling $5 billion to ensure that all North Carolinians have access to jobs and educational opportunities. Gov.
